Over the weekend, I had the joy of joining the birthday celebrations for the Britannia Community Food Forest. Located on Britannia Road in Leederville, the Food Forest is a community-managed space where locals come together to grow food, restore the land, and create a shared green sanctuary in the heart of our inner city suburbs.
To mark the occasion, we rolled up our sleeves for a tree planting day. It was wonderful to connect with so many locals while digging in the soil and planting both native and fruit trees. And of course, no birthday is complete without cake!
After the planting, we learned how Transition Town Vincent is using biochar to return carbon to the soil, and we heard about the exciting vision for the Black Cockatoo Forest, which is the next stage in revitalising this special pocket of public space.
