Right now, too many families across Australia are feeling the squeeze — and the high cost of early childhood education and care is a big part of the problem.
For many parents, especially in suburbs like Perth and Inglewood, the weekly childcare bill can feel like a second rent. In these areas, families are paying an average of $116 out of pocket each week for just three days of long day care. That adds up quickly — and for families with multiple children, living on a single income, or doing it tough financially, it can be impossible.
The Greens believe every child deserves access to high-quality early education — no matter their postcode or their parents’ income.
That’s why we’re fighting for free childcare for every family.
Our plan would take the pressure off household budgets, freeing up money for everyday essentials like groceries, rent, or mortgage repayments — while ensuring that every child gets the best possible start in life.
It’s a win for kids, a win for parents, and a win for our whole community.
Let’s make early learning accessible for everyone.
